BRENHAM CITY COUNCIL TO VOTE ON INCREASED WASTEWATER RATES
The Brenham City Council will vote on an increase to the city’s wastewater rates when it meets on Thursday.
Recommendations from NewGen Strategies & Solutions, who the city hired in June to study its rates, are proposing an initial increase of 13.6 percent for residential, commercial and industrial customers. This would be the first of five planned annual increases taking effect at the beginning of each fiscal year, ranging between 2.7 percent and 4.8 percent through the 2030 Fiscal Year.

The city proceeded with the wastewater rate study in order to determine if its rates would be able to ensure sufficient revenue for services to the community and planning for large infrastructure projects.
Also at Thursday’s meeting, the council will look at designating no parking zones and erecting no parking signs along a section of South Market Street, next to Champion Fellowship. City staff writes in the agenda packet that vehicles have been parking on the right of way, blocking the visibility of oncoming traffic. Staff adds that the city has spoken with Champion Fellowship, and they are agreeable with the plan.
Councilmembers will also consider using $268,975 in funds from the Brenham Community Development Corporation (BCDC) to replace old field lights at Henderson Park. If approved, the project would start in November and be completed in late December or early January.
In other items, the council will:
- Take up a resolution authorizing the acceptance of public improvements in the North Saeger Street right-of-way within phase 1 and 2 of the Wilkins Valley subdivision.
- Act on resolutions to authorize the acceptance of public infrastructure improvements in phase 2 of the Heritage Oaks subdivision, phase 6 of the Vintage Farms subdivision and the Ebenezer Development subdivision.
- Consider an amendment to the city’s professional services agreement with Strand Associates for projects related to the 2024 water main and sanitary sewer replacements.
- Vote on ratifying the purchase of a bypass pump by the city’s Wastewater Construction Department for the Highway 105 lift station.
- Hold an executive session to consult with an attorney regarding Dustyn Banik, Alma Sanchez and Gerran Banik v. City of Brenham, Texas; Civil Action No. 4:25-cv-2487; United States District Court, Southern District of Texas, Houston Division. No action is scheduled to be taken.
The council will meet Thursday at 1 p.m. at Brenham City Hall.
