PANTHER BASKETBALL JUST MISSES AN UPSET OVER MUMFORD
The Burton Panther Basketball Team just missed pulling off a victory over the Mumford Mustangs last (Friday) night at the Burton High School Gym. The Mustangs won a nailbiter 52-51.
The Panthers took the early advantage by outscoring Mumford 15-12 in the first quarter. However, the Mustangs opened up a big lead in the second quarter by outscoring Burton 18-7, which put Mumford up 30-22 at halftime.
Coming out of the locker room, the Panthers fought back, and outscored the Mustangs 16-8 in the third quarter. That tied the game at 38-38.
However, Mumford slipped past Burton in the fourth quarter 14-13 to get the hard fought win.
Yobani Brewer led the Panthers with 15 points, while Kayden Patterson added 14 points.
The loss drops Burton to 13-9 on the season and 5-5 in district play.
The Panthers have two games left. They are at the Somerville Yeguas this Tuesday, they have a bye on Friday, February 13, and then they will finish the regular season against the Snook Blue Jays on Tuesday, February 17.
