TxDOT PUBLIC MEETING THURSDAY TO COVER MEDIAN CHANGES ON SOUTH DAY STREET, HIGHWAY 36

The Texas Department of Transportation – Bryan District will hold a public meeting this week for Brenham residents to learn more about a median project along South Day Street and Highway 36 South.

The come-and-go meeting is scheduled on Thursday from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Blinn College Student Center in Brenham.  TxDOT says guests will be able to review informational displays about the project and ask questions to staff in an open house format.

TxDOT is seeking to extend and reconfigure the existing medians on South Day Street north of Highway 290 and on Highway 36 south of Highway 290.  The existing medians would be extended by an additional 555 feet to the north and 660 feet to the south.  Left-turn locations would be provided to allow access to businesses along South Day Street and Highway 36.

TxDOT says the goal of the project is to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion near the Highway 290 intersection, provide access to businesses near the intersection, and enhance safety.  No right-of-way acquisition is anticipated.

A public meeting was held in November 2023 that initially only proposed roadway improvements along South Day Street, but following feedback and evaluation, TxDOT modified the scope of work for the project to address traffic congestion near the Highway 290 intersection on South Day Street and on Highway 36 south of Highway 290.  TxDOT recently shared its plans with Brenham City Councilmembers during a presentation in December.

Written comments from the public about the proposed project are requested and may be presented at the meeting.  Comments can also be submitted by mail to the TxDOT Bryan District Office or by email to BRY_PublicComment@txdot.gov.  All comments must be received on or before Monday, April 6th.
