CUB BASEBALL DEFEATS IOWA COLONY ON SENIOR NIGHT 6-2

Although they have the District 17-5A Championship wrapped up, the Brenham Cub Baseball Team did not take the foot off of the gas as they beat Iowa Colony in a non-district game 6-2 on Senior Night at Fireman's Park.

The Cub are off from district due to the bye week, but they elected to stay busy.

Iowa Colony started if off with a leadoff homer to take the early 1-0 lead.

Brenham bounced back with five runs in the bottom of the first inning. Dalton Hart walked, Owen Finke singled, and Drake Bentke drew a walk to load the bases. Landry Mendoza followed with a two-run double to put the Cubs up 2-1.

Brody Tucker then hit a sacrifice fly to score Bentke to make it 3-1. Two batters later, Caleb Maurer hit a two-run homer, which gave Brenham a 5-1 advantage after one inning of play.

Neither team would get on the scoreboard until the Cubs tacked on another run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Bentke singled in Jackson Reyes to make it 6-1 Brenham.

Iowa Colony got another homer in the top of the seventh to cut the Cub lead to 6-2, but that would be as close as they would get.

Dawson Keim got the start and went 6 1/3 innings pitched allowing two runs, on three hits, walking four, and striking out six. Braeden Gandy came in to close it out by getting the last two outs.

With the win, the Cubs are now 20-8-1 on the season.
