BURTON SOFTBALL RUN-RULES WOODSBORO 12-2 TO WIN REGION SEMIFINALS
The Burton Lady Panther Softball Team continued their march to state last (Friday) night with a 12 -2 victory over the Woodsboro Lady Eagles. The win gave the Lady Panthers a 2-0 sweep over the Lady Eagles in their Region Semifinal series.
Burton scored early and often. It started in the bottom of the first inning. Lexi Broesche led it off by reaching on an error, and Amaya Williams singled. Paige Fritsch followed with a two-run single. That scored them both, and gave Burton a 2-0 lead.
Laci Broesche drove in Fritsch, which gave the Lady Panthers a 3-0 lead.
In the top of the second inning, Woodsboro got on the board. Caygen Lewis led off the inning with a triple, and Sydney Castillo singled her in, which cut the Burton lead to 3-1.
The Lady Panthers added three more runs in the bottom of the second inning. With one out, Kelsey Landriault got hit by a pitch. Lexi Broesche followed with a double, and Williams singled to load the bases. Then, Fritsch drilled a two-run single that scored Landriualt and Broesche. Natalie Hodde hit an RBI groundout that scored Williams and increased the Burton lead to 6-1.
Woodsboro came back with a run in the top of the fourth to cut the Lady Panthers' advantage to 6-2.
Williams led off bottom of the fourth inning a monster home run over the center field wall, her 21st of the season.
Hodde reached on an error, was bunted over by Leilah Ellis. She then scored on an RBI single by Laci Broesche that made it 8-2.
Burton added three runs in the fifth inning. With Lexi Broesche and Williams aboard, Fritsch hit a three-run homer to give the Lady Panthers 11-2.
Burton finished it off in the bottom of the sixth inning. Aerynn Huntsman led it off with a triple. Melanie Wood followed with a double to score Huntsman, which made the score 12-2 and enforced the mercy rule.
Lexi Broesche went the distance in the circle to get the win.
The Lady Panthers now move on to the Region Championship against the Shiner Lady Comanches. Playoff information is still to be determined.
