The featured speaker was Robert Storms of Brenham, who talked about the service and sacrifice of his father, Major Harvey H. Storms, who served in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean War. Major Storms, who would have turned 110 today, was killed during the Battle of the Chosin Reservoir in December 1950, but nearly 70 years passed before his remains were recovered. He was laid to rest in Arlington National Cemetery in July 2021.
Robert Storms recalled his family’s experience receiving the news that his father’s remains had been located in North Korea.
Storms also gave thanks to all military servicemembers, saying people can be choose to be hateful or grateful for what life brings them, but life is what they make of it, and veterans like his father give Americans the opportunities they have.
Also speaking at today’s ceremony were Washington County Judge John Durrenberger, Brenham Mayor Atwood Kenjura, Burton Mayor Karen Buck and State Senator Lois Kolkhorst.
Storms’ full Memorial Day speech can be heard below.
