CITY ASK FOR HELP IN GETTING ANSWERS FROM FEMA

Officials with the city of Brenham say they will seek federal help as they continue their quest for funds to repair damage caused by the flooding that occurred over a year and a half ago.

City staff has sent a letter to U.S. Rep. Michael McCaul, in which they say the city has sent more than 1,000 emails, many repeating the same information several times.

Widespread flooding caused extensive damage to the city, resulting in estimated repairs of over $2.6 million.

City staff has identified more than 44 areas where repairs are needed and has asked FEMA for funding, which would provide up to 75 percent of the costs to repair projects that are eligible for reimbursement.

City Manager Terry Roberts said the city is increasingly frustrated with the agency.

Roberts says the city has had to make decisions not knowing if any of the work would be eligible for FEMA Public Assistance funding.

The letter was in response to a request by McCaul’s staff for details.
