DOROTHY MORGAN OFFICIALLY ANNOUNCES BID FOR MAYOR OF BRENHAM

Dorothy Morgan has officially announced her intent to run for Mayor of Brenham.

After filing for May’s election on Friday, the former Brenham Mayor and Washington County Judge released a written statement early this (Tuesday) morning. In it, she states her reasons for running this spring, along with some topics she plans to address in her campaign.

In her written statement, Morgan says she is “shocked” how the city has handled its debt, saying Brenham taxpayers are being “overburdened” by the city’s current level of debt. She says she wants to handle this “overreaching debt challenge” with a conservative approach.

Morgan stresses the importance she places on business, and how the City of Brenham needs to support its business partners and work with potential businesses. She also says the city should take a balanced approach with manufacturing and retail, so it can “reap the benefits” of a self-sufficient economy.

One of Morgan’s points of emphasis was strong communication and transparency between decision makers and citizens.

Morgan will be running against current Mayor Milton Tate, who announced last week that he would run for re-election. Tate has served four full terms since he was elected in a special election in 2003.

Morgan says she is going to run hard and strong, because she feels the city needs strong leadership.

Morgan previously served as the mayor of Brenham for over four terms, and for most of the 1980’s. She also served five terms as Washington County Judge, beginning in the early 1990’s.  She opted not to run for re-election in 2010.

The last day to file for a spot on the ballot for the election is February 15th.  Early voting starts on April 22nd, with the election on May 4th.
