SNOOK FOOTBALL TEAM PREPARING TO PLAY FIRST GAME IN NEW STADIUM
The Snook Bluejays varsity football team will host its first true home game in program history tomorrow (Friday) night at the brand-new Bluejay Stadium.
After travelling for all previous “home” games since beginning play in 2010, the team officially has a home venue after construction on the stadium completed this summer. The stadium comes equipped with an eight-lane track and other track and field features, concession and restroom facilities, seating for roughly 1,000 fans, and the first turf field in Burleson County.
Snook ISD Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Boone Patterson said while games may not reach full capacity any time soon with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the fans that do come can expect a top-of-the-line facility.
The new stadium is part of a $7.5 million bond passed in May 2018. Other projects included in the bond were a new secondary cafeteria; new theater arts, art, and CTE classrooms; a new 200-space parking lot; weight room renovations; renovation of the maintenance building for the Alternative Learning Center and Disciplinary Alternative Education Program classrooms; and baseball field improvements.
Patterson said there are opportunities to further add to Snook’s athletic facilities, should the public be in favor.
The Bluejays’ home opener against the Thorndale Bulldogs will kick off tomorrow night at 7 p.m. Prior to kickoff, Snook’s booster club will host a tailgate event in the parking lot, providing food and music for visitors.
The matchup is this week’s KTEX-106 Friday Face-off. Holly Ryder will be in Snook tomorrow night, broadcasting live from the KTEX Country Cruiser.
