TEXAS ARTS AND MUSIC FESTIVAL BEGINS SATURDAY IN DOWNTOWN BRENHAM

The 6th Annual Texas Arts and Music Festival will celebrate the art and culture of downtown Brenham this weekend.

The two-day festival begins tomorrow (Saturday) and continues through Sunday, and will add to downtown’s growing art collection with two new murals.  There will also be an art village with vendors selling items ranging from paintings and pottery to crafts, along with food trucks.  The nationally acclaimed Jordan Matthew Young, who was a finalist in NBC’s season 20 of The Voice, will perform tomorrow at 7 p.m.

Festival Chairman and founder Brad Stufflebeam says a new addition to this year’s festival is a frenetic competition between a dozen street artists to see who is the best.

Levi Ponce of Los Angeles is this year’s featured mural artist and will paint a mural highlighting a Washington County native at the corner of Commerce and South Park Street.  A second mural will be added at the corner of Commerce and Douglas Street by Brenham artist and high school art teacher, Brooke Trahan, with the help of her students.  The artists will complete their works by Sunday.

Stufflebeam says the festival is an event that the kids are sure to enjoy.

Several streets will be blocked starting tomorrow morning in order to protect visitors, vendors and participants.  From 5 a.m. tomorrow to 3 p.m. Sunday, East Commerce Street from Austin Street to South Baylor Street, South Park Street from Alamo Street to First Street, and South Baylor Street from East Commerce Street to the railroad will all be closed.

The Texas Arts and Music Festival was created in 2016 to provide an event for art and music lovers while also paving the way for students interested in pursuing an arts education.  The festival has provided support for area school programs in Brenham, Burton and Sealy.
