Blinn College celebrated homecoming this past weekend and named a new Homecoming Queen and King.

Haley Rodriguez and Colbey Thornton were crowned during halftime of the Blinn-Trinity Valley Community College football game at Cub Stadium.

Rodriguez was nominated by the Blinn College dance team. Thornton was nominated by the Beta Alpha Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa.

Rodriguez, from Baytown, is a liberal arts major.  She plans to transfer to a four-year university to pursue a degree in civil engineering.

Thornton, from Brenham, is majoring in biology and liberal arts at Blinn.  He plans to attend Sam Houston State University and earn a master’s degree in clinical psychology with an emphasis on forensics.

Selection of a homecoming king and queen is based on student voting, a candidate’s nomination essay, letters of recommendation, and performance at a talent show.

Other queen candidates were Stephanie Llanas, nominated by the Blinn Housing Department; Deaundrah Newell, nominated by Refined Ladies; Bidhata Panedy, also nominated by Refined Ladies; and Angel Rodriguez, nominated by Blinn cheerleading.

Gabriel Lujan, nominated by Blinn cheerleading, was also a king candidate.

The Buccaneers handed the No. 4 Trinity Valley Cardinals their first loss of the season in a 21-14 upset.
