BURTON ALL READY FOR COTTON GIN FESTIVAL SATURDAY
Burton is all set for a day of fun and history at tomorrow’s (Saturday) 35th Annual Cotton Gin Festival.
The day opens at 10 a.m. with a parade through Burton, leading into a variety of activities on the grounds of the Cotton Gin Museum until 6 p.m.
Burton Cotton Gin Museum Director Steph Jarvis, speaking during Tuesday’s Community Corner on KWHI, says while the weather forecast might be wet, the festivities will still go on, rain or shine.
Along with the parade, guests will be able to enjoy shopping at arts and crafts vendors and food vendors, folklife demonstrations, a tractor pull, classic car displays, games, and the popular bubblegum blowing, pie eating and cotton seed pulling contests.
There will also be tours offered at the historic Burton Farmers Gin, the oldest operating cotton gin in America. At 3 p.m., the cotton gin will come to life and gin a bale of cotton.
Entertainment will be provided by Hill Country Two Step, who will be offering two step dance lessons at 12:30 and 2 p.m. Live music will include Annie Rost and Mike Stroup from 11 a.m. to noon, Sean Orr & Texas Gold from noon to 2:30 p.m., Das ist Lustig from 2:30 to 4 p.m., and The Czechaholics from 4 to 6 p.m.
Admission to the festival is free. To learn more, go to www.texascottonginmuseum.org.
KTEX-106’s Courtney Cartwright will be at the Cotton Gin festival tomorrow, broadcasting live on KWHI and KTEX-106.
