The Brenham Cub Football Team left no doubt as they came out and took care of business by beating the Waco University Trojans 43-7 to claim the program's first district championship in five years.

The Trojans got it started as Savoy Nichols found Ke'Andre Brooks on a 70-yard touchdown pass. Micah Hatten added the extra point, and University led 7-0 just 44 seconds into the game.

After that, it was all Cubs.

On their opening drive, Jordan Harvey found Chris Guidry on a 12-yard touchdown pass, and Bleu Cienega kicked the extra point to tie the game at 7-7 with 8:06 left in the first quarter.

Brenham then took the lead on a 24-yard touchdown pass from Harvey to Guidry, and Cienega made another extra point. This gave the Cubs a 14-7 lead at the 3:51 mark.

In the second quarter, Jakoby Dixon scored his first down of the night on an 11-yard touchdown run. After a penalty against the Trojans, Dixon scored the two-point conversion out of the Wildkat formation to give Brenham a 22-7 lead with 9:09 left until halftime.

Harvey later found Guidry on a one-handed highlight reel (video of which made it on to ESPN) catch to set up the next touchdown. That touchdown was scored by Cartelle Brown on a 20-yard pass from Harvey. Cienega kicked the extra point to make it 29-7 with 6:12 left.

The Cubs would get one more touchdown with 34 seconds left in the second quarter on a three yard run by Dixon and a PAT by Cienega. This gave Brenham a 36-7 lead at halftime.

The Cubs would get one last touchdown in the fourth quarter on a 20-yard touchdown run by Dixon and Cienega added the extra point to round out the scoring at 43-7.

The win gives Brenham their first District Championship since 2019. The Cubs are now 8-1 on the season, and 4-0 in district. They will wrap up the regular season on Thursday night when they travel to Belton for a 7pm kickoff. KWHI will have live coverage beginning with the pregame at 6:30pm.
