Jakoby Dixon (Missy Robinson)

The Brenham Cub Football Team is getting set to take on the Liberty Hill Panthers in the Area Round of the UIL High School Playoffs later this (Friday) evening.

The Cubs are 10-1 on the season. They are the District 10-5A Division II Champions, after sweeping the competition 5-0. Brenham is also coming off beating Texas City 38-0 in the Bi-District round last week, which puts them on a six-game winning streak.

QB Jordan Harvey (Sr.) is the team's leading passer with 89 completions out of 142 attempts, or a 63% completion rate. He has thrown for 1,538 yards, 20 touchdowns, to just five interceptions, and his QB Rating has climbed to 124.4.

RB Jakoby Dixon (So.) continues his incredible season with 246 carries for 2,249 rushing yards and 32 touchdowns. He's also averaging 9.1 yards per carry. RB Xyran Upshaw has stepped up as Dixon's main backup with 89 carries for 457 yards and six touchdowns.

The receiving corps is lead by WR Chris Guidry (Jr.), who has 27 catches for 593 yards and 10 touchdowns. WR Cartelle Brown (Jr.) is right behind him with 23 catches for 438 yards and seven touchdowns.

The Cub Defense is lead by LB Caleb Espinoza (Jr.), who has 134 tackles on the season and four sacks. LB Kristian Prosper is second on the team with 81 tackles. DE Mason Seeber leads the team with six sacks.

Liberty Hill is 9-2 so far on the season. The Panthers are the runner-ups from District 11-5A Division II after finishing 6-1.

Their only losses were to Cibolo Steele 49-26 in Week One, and to Bastrop 35-31 in Week Eleven.

Last week, Liberty Hill defeated Sam Houston High School from San Antonio 69-26 in the Bi-District round.

Liberty Hill runs the Slot-T offense, which features a lot of running, and very little passing. In the game with Sam Houston, as a team, they had 65 carries for 565 yards and nine touchdowns. They did not have to pass at all.

Pierre Dylan Belinga (So.) led the way with 18 carries for 223 yards and three touchdowns. Spencer Ballew (So.) added 14 carries for 109 yards, and D.J. Seaborn (Jr.) finished with seven carries for 105 yards. Preston Benefield (Jr.) had 14 carries for 75 yards and five touchdowns.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7pm from the Pfield in Pflugerville. Tommy Lange and I will have the call of the action beginning with the pregame on KWHI 1280AM, 101.7FM, and KWHI.com.
