FIVE CALLS SUNDAY, TWO EARLY MONDAY FOR BRENHAM FIRE DEPT.
The Brenham Fire Department had five calls on Sunday and two early this (Monday) morning.
One of the calls on Sunday was the department’s response to a plane's emergency landing in a field around 3:30 p.m. at Hopmann Road and Old Independence Road. Units arrived and found a single engine plane upright with the occupants standing beside it. They surveyed the plane and found no fluids were leaking. The occupants were uninjured and no further action was needed, so the department was released from the scene by DPS.
Other calls included a gas leak just before 1:45 p.m. at a home in the 500 block of West Blue Bell Road. Firefighters arrived and found that the gas line was leaking under the house. The City of Brenham Gas Department arrived and shut off the meter until the gas line could be repaired.
Around 4:45 p.m., BFD members responded to a crash at the Highway 290 cloverleaf. Upon arrival, they found four vehicles on the shoulder of the road with light damage but no fluids leaking. They then set up traffic control and returned to service once the scene was cleared.
At 7 p.m., members of the Brenham Fire Department and Berlin Volunteer Fire Department were called out to a grass fire in the 1100 block of Lange Lake Road. They made location and found a small fire, with a home’s occupants sitting around the fire. It was determined to be an honest mistake from the passerby who reported the fire, and no action was needed.
At 7:15 p.m., a gas leak was reported at a home in the 200 block of White Court. However, firefighters found nothing upon checking the area.
Just after 4:15 a.m. today, Brenham units were dispatched along with the Salem Volunteer Fire Department for a crash with entrapment in the 5100 block of Highway 36 South. They made location and found an 18-wheeler truck with the tanker trailer off the roadway. Firefighters used equipment to take the driver-side door off the truck and remove the driver. The tanker trailer had disconnected from the truck and was laying on its side, but nothing was leaking from the trailer. The driver of the truck was transported by Washington County EMS with unknown injuries. Salem firefighters released the Brenham department from the scene.
Shortly before 6:15 a.m., units went out to a fire alarm at a home in the 700 block of Durden Street, but they ultimately found that the system was malfunctioning.
