BRENHAM CITY COUNCIL AUTHORIZES LAND NEGOTIATIONS TO BUILD LIFT STATION

  

The Brenham City Council took action after an executive session on Tuesday to make strides toward improving the city’s wastewater system.

The council authorized the city manager to negotiate a contract to acquire real property for the construction of a lift station.

City of Brenham Communications and Public Relations Manager Melinda Gordon said no additional information can be released at this time, since negotiations for the land purchase are ongoing. 

During regular session at Tuesday’s meeting, the council authorized publishing notice of intent for the issuance of up to $29,860,000 in certificates of obligation (COs) for water and wastewater projects and for general government capital purchases. 

Of that total, $26,760,000 will come from water and wastewater projects, including $22,511,000 for expansion of the water plant, $3,089,000 for wastewater collection and lift stations, and $1,160,000 for main replacements in the water distribution system.  The remaining $3,100,000 would go toward the general government capital purchases.

The council plans to officially award the COs at its meeting on March 6^th. 

Gordon did add that the executive session action on Tuesday does not relate to another item discussed at the meeting, that being TxDOT’s project to build a new area office on Highway 36 South.  The project, estimated at $744,241, involves the extension of city utilities to the site and is slated to include a new sewer lift station.  TxDOT will reimburse the city for all costs associated with the design, installation and construction of the project.
