DPS on Monday identified the driver in Wednesday’s crash as 59-year-old Kimberly Lannigan of Colorado Springs, Colorado.

According to College Station police, Lannigan had attempted to cash a fraudulent check at a local bank before fleeing south on Highway 6 towards Navasota.  Police terminated their pursuit when she switched lanes and began driving south in the northbound lanes.

DPS and Navasota police picked up the pursuit, and Lannigan ultimately crashed head-on with Sgt. Butler’s patrol vehicle.  Lannigan died at the scene, while Sgt. Butler was taken to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Funeral arrangements will include a public visitation this Thursday from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Nobles Funeral Home in Navasota.

The funeral service will be held on Friday at noon at Central Church Bryan-College Station, with a law enforcement procession departing from Navasota and arriving at the church around 10 a.m.  A reception will follow at the Navasota VFW.

A private burial will be conducted at the National Cemetery in Houston.

A memorial fund has been established at Citizens State Bank to provide financial support to Sgt. Butler’s family
