LADY PANTHERS DEFEAT EVADALE 53-48 TO WIN BI-DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP
The third time was the charm for the Burton Lady Panther Basketball Team as they defeated Evadale 53-48 to win the Bi-District Championship last (Tuesday) night in Willis.
It was the third year in a row for these two teams to face off in the Bi-District round. Evadale won the first two, but this time, the night would belong to the Lady Panthers.
Burton jumped out to an early lead and were ahead 13-9 at the end of the first quarter. They also edged out the Lady Rebels 12-11 in the second quarter for a 25-20 halftime lead.
Evadale battle back in the second half and at one point had taken the lead. However, Burton made their shots down the stretch and were able to hold on for the victory.
After the game, the girls sang "Happy Birthday" to Head Coach Chris Taplin, and mobbed him with a big group hug.
Aerynn Huntsman and Lexi Broesche led the Lady Panthers with 10 points each. Jennifer Lopez and Valerie Hernandez added nine points each. Laci Broesche finished with eight points.
Next up, Burton will take on Weimar in the Area Round of the playoffs. The game will be Thursday night at 6pm at Fayetteville High School. KWHI will broadcast the game live beginning with the pregame at 5:35pm.
