RESCUE CALL, MULTIPLE CRASHES AMONG 13 WEEKEND CALLS FOR BRENHAM FD
The Brenham Fire Department had a busy weekend, responding to 13 calls between Saturday and Sunday.
At 8:30 a.m. Saturday, firefighters received a report of carbon monoxide at a home in the 400 block of Clinton Street. Contact was made with the homeowner, and the department ventilated the area where the carbon monoxide detector was activated.
Just before 9 a.m., the department went back out to the home on Clinton Street for another carbon monoxide alarm, but units were cancelled by the alarm company after receiving proper code from the homeowner.
At 9:30 a.m., units went out to a hazmat call at a gas station in the 2600 block of Highway 36 South. Units found a diesel spill in the gas station parking lot and contained and mitigated the hazard.
At 10:45 a.m., firefighters were dispatched to Highway 290 West and Highway 36 North for a crash not blocking the roadway. They made location to find a multi-vehicle accident with all vehicles parked on the side of the highway. They provided traffic control until law enforcement released them from the scene.
At 1 p.m., BFD members responded to another crash, also at Highway 290 West and Highway 36 North. When they arrived, they discovered a single-vehicle accident with no entrapment and provided traffic control until law enforcement arrived and cleared them to return to service.
At 2:30 p.m., the fire department received a report of an illegal burning at a home in the 1000 block of West Lubbock Street. Units found the homeowner burning construction material in the backyard. The fire was extinguished due to city ordinance violation.
Around 3:15 p.m., units were dispatched to a home in the 800 block of Hosea Street for a welfare concern. Upon arrival, they were notified by Brenham police that the fire department was no longer needed, and that police were able to make entry into the residence.
At 4:15 p.m., firefighters were called out to a crash with no entrapment at Highway 36 North and Blue Bell Road. There, they found a two-vehicle accident with the intersection being blocked by both vehicles. Debris from the accident was removed from the roadway, and the department remained on scene for traffic control until the vehicles were towed by wreckers.
Approaching 7 p.m., BFD personnel went back out to Highway 290 West and Highway 36 North for another crash with no entrapment. They found a two-vehicle accident and offered traffic control until they were released by law enforcement.
At 7:15 p.m., the department was dispatched for a rescue at the Iron Bridge Road boat ramp at Lake Somerville. Units arrived to find a patient was stuck in a hole on the shoreline with mud up to the patient’s waist. They assisted EMS with extricating the patient out of the mud by digging the mud out of the hole until the patient was free. Once free from the hole, the patient was taken to an ambulance for further evaluation by EMS personnel. The fire department cleared the call.
Shortly after 7:15 p.m., units were called out for a gas odor at a home in the 2100 block of Parker Court. They made location and found a leak at the meter, remaining on scene until the City of Brenham Gas Department arrived to handle the issue.
At 10:30 a.m. Sunday, another gas leak was reported at a home in the 400 block of Shadow Oak Circle. Firefighters found an active gas leak at the meter and remained on hand until the gas department made location.
Just before 2:45 p.m., firefighters responded to a crash with no entrapment in the 200 block of Rippetoe Street. Upon arrival, they discovered a single-vehicle accident involving a car that collided with a house. The structure of the house was assessed, and they determined there was no structural compromise. After ensuring the scene was safe, all units returned to service.
