WASHINGTON CO. VETERANS ASSOCIATION HOSTING MEMORIAL DAY OBSERVANCE
The Washington County Veterans Association will honor fallen veterans today (Monday) at its annual Memorial Day observance.
The program begins at 11 a.m. at the Brenham American Legion Hall.
The featured speaker will be Tyson Voelkel, a Brenham native and U.S. Army veteran who is the president and CEO of the Texas A&M Foundation.
Voelkel served in multiple command roles during his time in the military, including as a company commander within the 82nd Airborne Division during combat operations in Iraq. There, he was twice awarded the Bronze Star and recognized with the prestigious General Douglas MacArthur Leadership Award. Voelkel was also an instructor at the United States Military Academy at West Point, earning accolades as the top instructor in leadership and behavioral sciences.
Voelkel is a graduate of Brenham High School and a recipient of Brenham ISD’s Distinguished Alumni Award. He resides in College Station with his wife, Christi, and their three daughters.
A barbecue pork meal will be served after the program, with plates being sold for dine-in and to-go. A limited number of tickets will be available at the event.
