BRENHAM CITY COUNCIL TO POTENTIALLY ADOPT FEE SCHEDULE FOR HANDLING PUBLIC INFORMATION REQUESTS
The Brenham City Council will consider passing a resolution on Thursday to adopt a fee schedule for producing records requests through the Public Information Act.
Previously, the city has only charged for large information requests, but city staff says the number of requests received by the city has nearly doubled over the past five years, leading to the need for a part-time employee to assist with record production.
The City Secretary’s Office says by charging allowed costs for all information requests, it can recoup some of the taxpayer expenses associated with record production and help offset the purchase of specialized software to manage the increased volume of requests.
The resolution formally adopts the charges set by the Attorney General’s Office, which sets the maximum costs that citizens may be charged for copies or access to records.

In the only other regular session action item on the agenda, the council will act on an ordinance amending the rate tariff schedules for the city’s water utility services. The item is coming back to the council due to an error in the original rate calculation for what commercial and industrial customers pay for water service through a permanent meter that only serves a yard sprinkler system.
An executive session will be held for councilmembers to consult with the city attorney on matters concerning the Brenham Municipal Airport. No action is scheduled to be taken.
The council will meet Thursday at 1 p.m. at Brenham City Hall.
