PRAYER VIGIL HELD IN DOWNTOWN BRENHAM FOR CHARLIE KIRK

Brenham residents gathered in downtown Thursday evening to hold a prayer vigil in honor of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

Residents fill the courtyard outside the Washington
County Courthouse on Thursday for prayers and
hymns during a vigil for conservative activist Charlie
Kirk.

Crowds met at the courthouse gazebo to sing hymns and listen to several dignitaries, who offered words of unity and encouragement in Kirk’s memory.  Similar events have been held across the country for Kirk, who was shot and killed last week while speaking to students at an event at Utah Valley University.

Brenham City Councilmember Steve Soman said he was deeply saddened by Kirk’s death, and that it is not just the loss of a voice in national discourse, but a reminder of how precious and fragile the nation’s freedoms are.

State Senator Lois Kolkhorst speaks during a prayer
vigil in downtown Brenham on Thursday, held in
honor of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

State Senator Lois Kolkhorst recalled words from Erika Kirk, the widow of Charlie, who said today’s battle is spiritual as well as political, and that anyone can be a light to the rest of the world.

Others who spoke were Washington County Sheriff Trey Holleway, Pastor Jon Davies of Brenham Bible Church, and Trent Ginnis, who led the creation of a chapter of Turning Point USA, the nonprofit co-founded by Kirk, at Conroe High School.
