Blue Bell Creameries today (Friday) announced the sale of its first manufacturing facility at 802 Creamery Street in Brenham. The site is being sold for an undisclosed amount to longtime packaging supplier Stanpac, who owns and operates the adjacent property.
The building once housed the original plant that produced all of Blue Bell’s products. Blue Bell says the building has not been operational for several years and has reached the end of its usable life, but acknowledges that it holds deep sentimental value for many Blue Bell employees and others in the community.
Blue Bell President and CEO Jimmy Lawhorn says the company is “incredibly grateful that the buyer is a respected partner who understands the history and significance of the property.” He says, “We know this building is more than brick and mortar. It’s where careers were built, friendships were made, and history was written.”
Stanpac began supplying Blue Bell with packaging in 2008. The company relocated its Dallas operation to Brenham in 2011 to strengthen its partnership with Blue Bell and enhance efficiencies for one of its key customers.
Stanpac Co-President Matt Witt said, “We see this not as a simple transaction, but as an opportunity to be a steward of local history and deepen our roots in this community. This property was a cornerstone of the community’s identity, and our goal is to honor its legacy by giving the land new life.”
Lawhorn said the intent is to blend portions of the original creamery into the Visitor Center experience at the main Blue Bell campus on Blue Bell Road in order to “pay tribute to our past while paving the way for our future.”
