CAROL JACKSON TO RETIRE AS WASHINGTON CO. ELECTIONS ADMINISTRATOR
Washington County Elections Administrator Carol Jackson has announced her retirement.
After an over 29-year career with Washington County, Jackson’s retirement will be effective on Friday, July 31st.
Jackson has served the county in numerous ways, starting out in the tax assessor-collector’s office under former tax assessor-collectors Candy Arth and Dot Borchgardt and also as the interim tax assessor-collector. In 2010, she shifted to elections under former county clerk Beth Rothermel, working as chief deputy of elections before eventually taking on her current role of elections administrator.
Jackson says she has enjoyed her time at the county no matter what capacity, and that she would do it all over again if given the chance, but she acknowledges she has the opportunity to step away and feels it is time to take that jump.
Jackson says her position requires constant education and the ability to embrace change, particularly as the landscape of elections has changed in Washington County and the state as a whole. She has embraced the challenge of conducting elections, saying she loves helping voters and seeing everything fall into place in a safe and efficient manner.
As Jackson prepares for life after retirement, she says she plans to take care of herself and enjoy the freedom to do more things she wants to do.
Human Resources Director Amber Skalka said the elections administrator position was posted on June 26th to allow the county to begin accepting applications and allow adequate time for the recruitment process prior to Jackson’s retirement. That process will include reviewing applications, interviewing qualified candidates, and making a selection in accordance with the applicable appointment process.
Skalka said there is currently not a definitive timeline for when a new elections administrator will be appointed, as it will depend on the applicant pool and scheduling.
