GRIMES CO. SHERIFF’S OFFICE NAMES SUSPECT, ID’S VICTIM IN FATAL SHOOTING
The Grimes County Sheriff’s Office has charged a man with murder following a fatal shooting on Tuesday.
40-year-old Richard Butterworth III faces a charge of Murder and two counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon in the death of 51-year-old Vicente Yanez.
According to the sheriff’s office, deputies were called out at 5 p.m. in reference to a disturbance and possible shooting on County Road 173 in the Keith area.
When deputies arrived, they found a deceased male, later identified as Yanez. Investigators determined that Butterworth allegedly became involved in a physical altercation with Yanez while armed with a pistol, before ultimately firing the weapon and fatally striking him.
Butterworth is in custody at the Grimes County Jail.
The sheriff’s office is investigating along with the Grimes County District Attorney’s Office and the Texas Rangers. Other assisting agencies include the Texas Department of Public Safety, Navasota Police Department and Grimes County Precinct 1 Constable’s Office.
