SALES TAX REBATES UP IN WASHINGTON COUNTY
Washington County and the City of Brenham saw a jump in sales tax rebates this month.
Washington County’s rebate this month was $250,406, which is up 8.1 percent from May of 2016. The county has received $1,111,456 this year to date, up 5 percent from the same time last year.
Brenham’s May rebate totaled $613,418, which is up 13.4 percent from a year ago. So far, the city has received $2,703,069 through May- a 4.7 percent increase from the same time last year.
Burton’s rebate for May was $7,123. That number is up 45.3 percent from last year’s $4,903. Burton’s 2017 payments to date total $28,047, which is up 69.1 percent from the same period last year. Burton raised its sales tax to 1.5 percent after voter approval last year.
Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced he will send cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts $787.8 million in local sales tax allocations for May, 2.6 percent more than in May 2016.
“The cities of Irving, Round Rock, Dallas, San Antonio and Odessa saw noticeable increases in sales tax allocations,” Hegar said. “The cities of McAllen and Sugar Land saw noticeable decreases.”
