BLINN TO INTRODUCE PERSONAL TRAINING COURSE IN SPRING

Beginning this spring, students will be able to take advantage of Blinn College’s new certified personal training course.

Blinn’s Health and Kinesiology Program will offer PHED 1338: Concepts of Physical Fitness at the Brenham and Bryan campuses. This three-hour course will help students learn the values of health-related fitness, as well as emphasize the development of fitness programs.

Health and Kinesiology Department Head Dr. Shelly Peacock says students will learn the basics of weights, exercise testing and personal exercise prescriptions. Upon completion of the course, students will be able to take the National Academy of Sports Medicine Certified Personal Trainer exam.

Certified trainers are qualified to work in recreational centers, health clubs, gyms, and studios, where they can lead and teach exercise activities. The median pay for fitness trainers and instructors in 2017 was $18.85 per hour, or $39,210 annually.

The course at Blinn in Brenham will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:45 to 9:25 a.m., at the Kruse Center. In Bryan, students will meet on Mondays and Wednesdays from 7:45 to 9:25 a.m., in the fitness center located in the G Building.  Both courses start Monday, January 14, 2019, and run through May 9th.

Along with face-to-face sessions, students can also do coursework online through the National Academy of Sports Medicine. Concepts of Physical Fitness is open to all Blinn students in any major, and does not require prerequisite courses.
