BRAHMAS, BUFFALOES AND HORNETS TO BATTLE FOR TOP SPOT IN DISTRICT

The Bellville Brahmas are the pre-season pick to take the title in the newly-formed District 12/4A Division II, according to Dave Campbell’s 2018 Texas Football magazine.

The Brahmas are the pick to finish first, followed (in order) by Giddings; Caldwell; LaGrange; Smithville and Brookshire Royal.

Bellville returns nine starters (4 offense/5 defense) from the 2017 squad that advanced to the Region semifinals.

Among the key returnees for the Brahmas are Defensive Lineman Grayson Mays, who recorded 112 tackles, five sacks and five fumble recoveries, as a Sophomore; as well as a huge offensive line to anchor Bellville’s vaunted running attack.

The Brahmas open the 2018 season, Friday August 31st at Madisonville.

The Giddings Buffaloes return 12 starters (6 offense/6 defense) to a team that went 4-1 in district play in 2017.

The Buffaloes’ offense under coach Wade Griffin will be led by Darius Parker, who accounted for 667 yards offense at numerous positions, while running back Ja’Darius Johnson and receiver Jaylon Joiner will be explosive offensive weapons for the Buffs.

Giddings will host Rockdale in its season opener, August 31st.

The Hornets are expected make a playoff run with eight starters (3 offense; 5 defense) returning from the 2017 team, which was 3-2 in district and qualified for the playoffs.

Coach Bobby Jack Goforth returns versatile quarterback Trent Stefka and a deep group of receivers.  The defense will rely on four returning All-District defenders, including defensive tackles, Garrett Church and Charles Sleeth.

The Hornets open the season, August 31st at Edna.
