Blinn softball totaled 18 hits against Apache Ladies despite losses

 

BULLARD, Texas — The Blinn College softball team totaled 18 hits against Tyler Junior College despite dropping a pair of games to the Apache Ladies, 7-1 and 8-7, on the road Saturday.

With the pair of losses, the Buccaneers now hold a 4-8 overall record.

Tyler 7 – Blinn 1  

The Buccaneers fell to Tyler, 7-1, in the doubleheader opener.

Keely Castillo led the offense with two hits, including a home run for Blinn’s only run.

In addition, Marley Mahoney, Italie Speziale-Potter, Chloe Woodward, and Reagan Majewski each had one hit the game.

In the circle, Shaelyn Sanders gave up seven runs on seven hits, while striking out six, in 3 2/3 innings. Nevada Dolnik pitched the final 2/3 innings for the Buccaneers and gave up two hits.

Tyler scored one run in each of the first two innings, three runs in the third, and two runs in the fourth to take a 7-0 lead.

Following a scoreless fifth inning, Castillo hit a solo home run in the top of the sixth inning for the Buccaneers’ only run.

Tyler 8 – Blinn 7  

Tyler rallied back with two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning for the Apache Ladies to defeat Blinn, 8-7, in the final game of the doubleheader.

The Buccaneers totaled 12 hits as Emily Murphy led the way with a 4-for-4 plate appearance to score one run and drive in one run. Renna Toomey led Blinn with four RBIs on two hits, while Mikaela led the Buccaneers with three runs.

Toomey pitched the first five innings, surrendering four earned runs and nine hits, while Dolnik pitched 1 2/3 innings and surrendered just two runs on two hits.

Toomey started things off for Blinn with a two-run double at the top of the first inning.

Tyler cut Blinn’s lead in half with one run in the bottom of the first and evened the score with one run in the second.

The Buccaneers pulled ahead 4-2 by scoring one run in the third inning on Murphy’s single and one run in the fourth inning on a triple off the bat of Lopez.

The Apache Ladies answered back with four runs in the bottom of the fourth to lead 6-4.

Murphy scored one run for Blinn in the fifth inning on an error for the Buccaneers to trail 6-5. Blinn took back a 7-6 lead after Mahoney, Lopez, and Castillo each singled to load the bases and Toomey hit a two-run single in the sixth inning.

However, Tyler rallied back for two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to walk off with the 8-7 victory.

Next, the Buccaneers will return home to compete against Hill College in a doubleheader on Monday, March 8, starting at 1 p.m. at Hohlt Park.
