COMMISSIONERS APPROVE BOARD OF DIRECTOR FOR APPRAISAL DISTRICT

The Washington County Commissioners met Monday at the Washington County Courthouse and approved a Resolution nominating candidates for membership on the Board of Directors for the Washington County Tax Appraisal District.

The names are approved are all of the current members of the board: John Schaer, Charles Gaskamp, Johanna Fatheree, Leslie Boehnemann, Jr., and Deton Koerth.

The commissioners also approved of an Interlocal Agreement between Washington County and Lubbock County for continuing participation in the Regional Public Defender for Capital Cases program. The county is obligated to provide two attorneys for Capital cases, attorneys  have to be approved by the court, which usually means the attorney has more education, and therefore, their hourly rate is higher, costing the county more money.

The agreement is for two years, corresponding to the State of Texas Biennium. The State has raised the amount that they contribute to the plan, therefore reducing the amount the County contributes. The County contribution has gone down from $18,000 to the current contract amount of $8,000.

County Judge John Brieden stated why he believed this agreement was a good deal for the county.

The Commissioners also approved the County Judge the authority to certify and sign the completed Workers’ Compensation Renewal Questionnaire and Application for 2016, which will then be submitted to the Texas Association of Counties Risk Management Pool.

A variance request was approved concerning the Subdivision Rules and Regulations for a land division fronting FM 1371 and U.S 290 in Precinct 2.

The commissioners also approved a letter of agreement from Rutledge, Crain and Company, PC, to provide auditing services to Washington County for the year ending December 31, 2015.

Several proclamations were announced by the commissioners, including Thursday, October 22, 2015 as “Think Pink Day,” October 2015 as “Domestic Violence Awareness Month” in Washington County, and October 4-10th as “Texas Extension Education Association Week” in Washington County.
