FREE SHOWING TUESDAY NIGHT OF “THE BOY WHO HARNESSED THE WIND” AT BARNHILL CENTER

The Barnhill Center in downtown Brenham will show a movie tonight (Tuesday) based on this year’s Washington County READ selection.

“The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind”, written by William Kamkwamba and Bryan Mealer, will go up on the big screen at 6:30 p.m.  Doors to the Barnhill Center open at 6 p.m.

The film, which premiered in January at the Sundance Film Festival, is based on the true story of a young man who built a windmill from scrap, in order to bring electricity and water to his village in East Africa.

The film was written and directed by Academy Award nominated actor Chiwetel Ejiofor.  13-year-old Kenyan actor Maxwell Simbe plays protagonist William, while Ejiofor plays William’s father.

The 11th Washington County READ reception will be held Friday at 5 p.m. at Unity Theatre, with a dramatic reading and the opportunity to meet co-author Bryan Mealer.
