Former Blinn College and Sam Houston St. head football coach Willie Fritz has taken on the challenge of trying to turn a perennial losing program into a winner.

Last week, Fritz left Georgia Southern after two seasons to take over the Green Wave at Tulane University.

Fritz was 17-7 at Georgia Southern in two seasons, leading the Eagles to back-to-back Sun Belt Conference titles.

In three seasons at Blinn, Fritz was 39-5, leading the Bucs to back-to-back National Championships in 1995 and 1996.

In four seasons at Sam Houston St., Fritz was 40-15, and had the Bearkats in the NCAA Division I National Championship game in 2011 and 2012.

Fritz brings a career record of 154-69 to Tulane—where the Green Wave has had just one winning season in the past 13 years.

Georgia Southern will be coached in Wednesday's godaddy.com Bowl by former Colorado St. defensive coordinator Tyson Summers.
