The Brenham Pet Adoption Center has named “Mia” as its Pet of the Week.

Mia is a tabby kitten who is currently in a foster home.  Her foster owner says Mia is a sweet and friendly cat who will be happiest with adults in a quiet home.  Her owner says she will need a safe place to hide at first, as strange noises frightened her for the first few weeks in her foster home.

Mia enjoys playing with toys, and is working on becoming a lap cat.

Brenham Animal Services is preparing to hold a Mardi Gras-themed event next weekend.  On Saturday, February 6th, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Puppy Dawgs and Cat Tails will host “Krewe of Barkus.”  The event is patterned after the Mystic Krewe of Barkus parade in New Orleans, established to help abused and abandoned canines in the city.

“Krewe of Barkus” will feature adoptable pets from the Brenham Pet Adoption Center, as well as a costume contest for pets and their owners.  The theme for the contest is Mardi Gras purple, gold and green.

To enter the contest, stop by Puppy Dawgs and Cat Tails in costume, or submit a photo by emailing animalservices@cityofbrenham.org or messaging Brenham Animal Services on Facebook.  The winner will be announced in a live video at 2:45 p.m. the day of the event.

Those looking to adopt or foster a pet can see the shelter’s available pets online at www.petfinder.com.  To make an appointment to meet a pet, call 979-337-7351 or visit the Brenham Animal Services Facebook page.  The shelter is open Tuesday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
