UNITY THEATRE TO PRESENT “ALWAYS…PATSY CLINE”

The Unity Theatre in Brenham will be presenting the story of legendary country singer Patsy Cline, entitled Always…Patsy Cline beginning on Thursday, September 24th.

Created and originally directed by Ted Swindley and based on a true story,  Always…Patsy Cline is more than a tribute to the legendary country singer who died tragically at age 30 in a plane crash in 1963. The show is based on a true story about Cline's friendship with a fan from Houston named Louise Seger, who befriended the star in a Texas honky-tonk in l961, and continued a correspondence with Cline until her death.

Directed by Unity veteran, Jimmy Phillips (Forever Plaid, Nunsense), Melodie Smith portrays the iconic Patsy Cline, and you’ll recognize Unity favorite, Carolyn Johnson (Harvey, Enchanted April, The Christmas Schooner, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, Arms and the Man, The Sound of Music, Dancing at Lughnasa and Oliver!) as Cline’s avid fan turned friend, Louise Seger. Rounding out the cast is “The Bodacious Bobcats Band”- Brenham local musicians Andrew Amelang and Rick Weiss, with Houstonian’s Steven Jones as the Musical Director and pianist and Bill Lundgren on fiddle.

The show will run for three weekends at Unity Theatre, previewing on Thursday, September 24th, opening on Friday, September 25th, and playing through Sunday, October 11th.  Performances are Thursdays at 7:30 pm, Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 pm, and Sundays at 4:00 pm. Tickets are $30 and they are reserved, however $20 tickets are available for Preview, September 24th, and all unsold seats are $15 at 15 minutes prior to any performance. A talk-back with the cast and crew immediately follows the Preview performance on September 24th and a Director’s Chat is scheduled for 7:30 pm on Saturday, October 3rd, prior to the show.
