BRENHAM CITY COUNCIL TO CONSIDER BOLLARD TRAFFIC SYSTEM FOR DOWNTOWN

The Brenham City Council will act upon a request to install a removable bollard traffic system in downtown Brenham at tomorrow’s (Thursday) meeting.

The Council will look at the submission of a grant application through the Lower Colorado River Authority’s partnership program, for the bollard traffic system.

They will also consider the renewal of Brenham’s Group Health Plan with the TML employee benefits pool, as well as establish funding rates for the Plan year, beginning October 1st.

The Council will also hear several requests pertaining to Henderson Park.  These include a service agreement with Strand Associates, Inc. for park improvements, as well as requests from the VFW to display a retired F-111 aircraft in the park.

Council members will also look at an audit engagement letter from Seidel Schroeder, asking to perform an audit for the fiscal year ending on September 30.

Other items include a bid for Gasoline and Diesel Fuel for Brenham’s vehicle and equipment fleet, a memorandum with the Brazos Valley Council on Alcohol and Substance Abuse, and two noise variance requests.

The Brenham City Council will meet tomorrow (Thursday) at 1 p.m., on the second floor council chambers of city hall.

  1. Am I the only one who apparently do not know what a removable traffic billiard system is? It sounds like something we really don’t need that will only cost mor money to manage. Whatever it is; do we really need it? It it going to remove more parking spaces for restaurant seating in the public right of way? Is it going to aliow more outside junk storage on the city sidewalks? Please explain.

    1. The bollard system is a removable traffic barricade system similar to what Blinn uses on high street and prairie lee st . They screw onto a system embedded in the street. This allows for the street to be closed or opened easily without needing additional manpower and vehicles to do the same task. They are rated for vechicle collisions and are safer then relying on traffic cones and barricades. Brenham has previously relied on the police department and off duty tow truck drivers to use their vehicles to block the street off.

When this bollard system is not in place traffic can flow freely as if nothing is there. In the long run this system is going to save money and possibly save lives in the event of a driver running over a crowd. It will be particularly useful during Hot Nights & Cool tunes and the Christmas stroll not to mention the parades.
