BURTON COTTON GIN FESTIVAL HAPPENING NEXT WEEKEND

The 28th annual Burton Cotton Gin Festival is happening next weekend in historic downtown Burton.

The festival keeps the history and heritage of cotton alive at the site of the oldest operating cotton gin in America.

The event will kick off on Friday with an all-you-can each shrimp boil and live auction at the Burton Community Center.

On Saturday, the day begins with the Main Street Parade at 10 a.m. Family activities and contests take place throughout the day including a bubble gum blowing contest, pie eating contest, and cotton seed pulling contest.

There will be food and craft booths, a children's barnyard, and an antique tractor show and pull. There will also be tours of the historic 1914 Burton Farmers Gin, tours Wehring Shoe Shop and Cotton Warehouse, folk life demonstrations, and antique engine exhibits. All these activities are free to attendees.

For more information about the festivities, visit cottonginmuseum.org.

KTEX’s Trail Boss Troy will be there Saturday broadcasting live from the Friendly Country Cruiser.

  1. How long before this facility is restored, and returned to it’s working condition, and made a Texas Landmark. Does it deserve anything else. I remember when it was in working order, I miss that.
