CHAMBER HOSTS PUBLIC EDUCATION FORUM

The Washington County Chamber of Commerce hosted the annual Public Education Forum today (Friday) at Blinn College.  Brenham Superintendent Dr. Walter Jackson and Burton Superintendent Dr. Edna Kennedy updated those attending on what is happening at their schools.  Dr. Kennedy spoke about the growth in enrollment that the Burton schools are experiencing and the growing need to expand the campuses.  She also spoke about the challenges of school funding in her district especially with the legislature cutting back on state funding.

 

Dr. Walter Jackson

 

Dr. Walter Jackson talked about the accomplishment by students in the Brenham District and about adding the new Early Childhood Education Center.  He invited everyone to the ribbon cutting and open house at the new center on Monday, August 7th. (Dr. Jackson's Power Point Presentation)  Jackson also talked about the challenges of trying to meet the ever-changing state accountability standards:

 

Chamber of Commerce Director Jeannie Kroll spoke about the new PEACE program.  Public Education Ambassadors for Community Engagement is a new program through the Brenham Game Changers organization and the chamber.  It will equip local businesses to promote values that are also being taught in Brenham and Burton schools each month.
