COMMISSIONERS TO DISCUSS RAILROADS AND LAND AT TUESDAY MEETING

Railroad crossings and land for an EMS Sub-station in Burton are on the agenda for tomorrow’s (Tuesday) meeting of the Washington County Commissioners Court.

County commissioners will discuss partnering with the city in creating the Railroad Quiet Zone at the crossing of FM-109.

Thursday, the Brenham City Council approved their part of the process in this joint venture with TxDOT and Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad.

An accident at the crossing in March of this year damaged the signals and BNSF has replaced them with new signals meeting the Quiet Zone requirements.

If approved, the project is expected to be completed in 6 to 7 months.

Commissioners are also exploring the purchase of property in the Burton area for its paramedic program and for a new Justice of the Peace office.

Commissioners will discuss an order exempting the purchase of property for the facility from the bidding process.

In May of 2015, the county placed a full-time advanced community paramedic in Burton.

Since then, the paramedic has worked out of a small office in the City Hall.  County Judge John Brieden now says as the number of hours of the program expands, so does the need for a larger office.

Brieden says a property owner has been approached and is willing to sell that amount of land for those purposes.

Commissioners will meet Tuesday morning at 9:00 at the Washington County Courthouse.
