COUNTY COMMISSIONERS ACCEPT LAND DONATION MONDAY

Washington County Commissioners had a relatively short meeting this (Monday) morning.  The meeting was moved to Monday to allow the commissioners to attend a workshop Tuesday on Community Development Block Grants at the Brazos Valley Council of Governments.

Commissioners accepted the donation of .135 acres of land on Clay Lane in Precinct 3.  Commissioner Kirk Hanath said the donation will allow the Road and Bridge Department to install a longer culvert and improve drainage in the area.  He said the donation not only helps the land owner, but also helps out the neighbors on that road.

Commissioner received a number of monthly reports from county departments.  Emergency Management Coordinator Brian Ruemke said the County continues to work on receiving reimbursements from FEMA for road damage.  He stated that the county has received reimbursements for damage from the 2016 flooding but nothing yet for the Hurricane Harvey flooding.

Ruemke also noted that there is a public meeting Wednesday at 6:30 PM on the County’s Hazard Mitigation Plan.  The meeting will be at the Washington County Events Center and seeks the public’s input on what may need to be added to the County’s plan that was adopted in 2013.  The plan deals with ways to reduce natural disaster damage or to reduce long-term risks to human life and property from hazards.

The commissioners were scheduled to hear the second quarter report form the Washington County Chamber of Commerce Convention and Visitors Bureau, but that report was rescheduled for next week.
