LOCAL SALES TAX REBATES DROP IN FEBRUARY

  

The monthly sales tax rebates for Brenham and Washington County both saw slight declines this month.

Brenham’s February rebate saw a 3.9-percent drop from $656,629 a year ago, to $631,299, this month.

The city has received a total of $1,144,230 in rebates over the first two months of 2017, which is up 1 percent from the 2016 total of $1,133,261.

Washington County received a February rebate of $262,557, down 3.3 percent from a year ago at $271,629.

The county’ payments so far this year totals $472,847, up 2.7 percent from $460,433 in 2016.

Burton’s February rebate was $6,082, up 34.4 percent from $4,524 in February of last year.

Burton has received $11,804 for the year, up 76 percent from the first two months last year at $6,705.

According to state Comptroller Glenn Hegar, rebates for the month totaled $858.6 million, 1 percent less than in February 2016.
