MAN SENTENCED FOR 2016 FATAL CRASH

A Brazos County judge has sentenced a Bryan man to 12 years in prison for a deadly 2016 accident that claimed a woman’s life.
47-year old Robert Allen Spurger pled guilty to Intoxication Manslaughter.
Authorities say Spurger was drunk when he collided head-on with a vehicle on Highway 6, back in October of 2016. The collision claimed the life of 53-year old Maria Ramirez of Bryan.
Witnesses say Spurger ran a red light, then entered the exit ramp of the highway going the wrong direction, just before striking Ramirez’s vehicle.
Police testified that Spurger had been drinking heavily at a nearby bar, and that two empty alcohol flasks were recovered from his vehicle. His blood alcohol level at the time of the crash was .175, over two times the legal limit.
Spurger will have to serve at least half his sentence before he’s eligible for parole.
This sentence is a sick joke. In six years he will be out and back on the road.
This sentence is not enough for taking someone’s life!
