SANDRA BLAND WRONGFUL DEATH CASE RESOLVED

The mother of Sandra Bland has reached a final settlement in the lawsuit over her daughter’s arrest and suicide at the Waller County Jail.BLAND VIDEO

This week, a federal judge dismissed the civil case after both parties agreed to a $1.9 million settlement. U.S. District Judge David Hittner accepted the agreement that lawyers for Bland’s mother developed with attorneys for 11 Waller County officials and the trooper who originally arrested her.

Bland was arrested in July of 2015 after allegedly being combative during a traffic stop. Authorities say 28-year-old Bland killed herself three days later at the Waller County Jail.

The trooper, Brian Encinia, was fired by the Texas Department of Public Safety. A criminal case is pending in state court against Encinia concerning allegations that he lied during the investigation.

  1. It’s funny that they had a trash can with plastic liner in it when you can’t even have shoe strings WOW

  2. The defendants would not have settled unless there were proven liabilities from their actions or lack of proper action. As a result of this outcome Waller county and the DPS will improve training and procedures, and this law suit was the motivation. Without it, there would very likely be more such unfortunate incidents to come. Like it or not, it is the way our judicial system was designed to work.

    1. The liabilities were deficiencies in their system and facilities, not in their personal or professional behavior. Reiterating the fact that this money could have been better spent on improving those facilities as well as providing for law abiding citizens in Waller County instead of lining the pockets of her family…

  3. Ridiculous!! I agree. The entire situation was caused by the poor choices of this lady and now the state is paying her mother off for it? Incredible. Yes it’s sad that she decided to kill herself but that in no way entitles anyone to anything except the normal pain and sorrow one experiences when a loved one passes. Was the trooper responsible for all of this? Absolutely not. His conduct was ridiculous as well and he is paying for that by way of losing his job and criminal charges. Bottom line here is that we had two people acting like fools on the roadside and now one of them is dead while the other is in deep trouble and all of it has wasted countless dollars that could have been spent elsewhere…..and now we will add another 1.9M to that waste. .

  4. Were YOU there when she killed herself? What and where is the evidence that proves she DID or DID NOT?
God is a God of justice – right here and right now!! He does NOT play favorites. Like it or not!! The Bland family got what they had coming to them for the injustice they endured. The trooper will get what he has coming to him for lying. GOD”S Perfect and Just Will is always done!!! HE and he alone has the FINAL say!!!!

    1. The Bland family did not deserve what they got…not the money or the loss of their daughter. The trooper should not have lied(if he in fact did lie) and true he will get what he has coming for that. No I was not there when she killed herself, but anyone that believes she didn’t is living in a fantasy world. I’m sure both Sandra and the trooper would like a chance to do things differently on that day on the side of the road and in the aftermath, but neither will get that chance will they? You are right, God is a God of justice, and God doesn’t like ugly, so I am certain that his will will be done as well. I wonder how Sandra feels about her family that thought she wasn’t worth $500 when she was alive…

  5. There is nothing “alleged” about it, everyone has seen the video, she WAS combative. She would have never been in jail if she hadn’t been combative and resisted. I am sorry that her family and/or friends either didn’t have the money or didn’t see fit to come up with $500 to bail her out of jail. I am sorry that she was so unstable that she killed herself in jail over something so trivial as a traffic ticket, and I am sorry that her mother lost a daughter, but all of that in no way entitles them to $1.9 million dollars, that money could have been spent to make the “improvements needed” to the Waller County Jail or to provide services to county residents that are truly in need instead of lining the pockets of greedy family members. So yes this is RIDICULOUS…

  6. Yes, I think its ridiculous! She should have complied with the officers instructions, but I guess some people think they are exempt from that! I could go further with this but I will leave it be.

  7. The woman died in jail after having a traffic violation and you think her family receiving money is ridiculous. Says a lot

    1. She died in jail because SHE KIlLED HERSELF!!! She made that choice, her family made the choice to not bail her out!! Yes it is ridiculous that Waller County and the State of Texas now have to pay her family $1.9 million because after not caring enough to bail her out they realized they could get money out of the deal and decided to care then. That money isn’t going to do Sandra any good but it sure did make her family rich.

  8. This is ridiculous! They didn’t have money to bail her out of jail and now they are millionaires!

    1. Karma……it will come back on them. You don’t turn your back on your child, especially when they knew what state of mind she was in. Did the officer go overboard? Yes, but from what I saw from the video, she was ornery from the start and was itching for a fight. If no one else can see that from the video, then that is what is wrong with this country. Blood money is never good and I hope they find the peace they seek in the million that they now have.
