SENATOR KOLKHORST PASSES TEXAS PORT EXPANSION ACT

The Texas Senate unanimously passed Senate Bill 28, the Texas Port Expansion Act authored by Senator Brandon Creighton (R-Conroe) and co-authored by Senator Lois Kolkhorst (R-Brenham).

Kolkhorst says the bill aims to provide opportunities for investments and enhancements at Texas Ports.

"Texas ports are estimated to be responsible for 25 percent of Texas' gross domestic product," says Kolkhorst. "Our ports are essential to the state's economy, and specifically our manufacturing and energy industries. That's why I am proud to co-author, and pass the Texas Port Expansion Act."

Senate Bill 28 clarifies that Texas Mobility Funds can only be used for construction or improvements of public roadways that will improve connectivity to ports. The legislation creates a ship channel improvement fund to assist in the deepening and widening of port projects.

The recently passed Senate budget also includes $40 million supporting the development of roadways to transport goods to and from the ports.

Spanning nearly a third of the Texas coastline, Senator Kolkhorst's district includes the ports of Bay City, Calhoun, Victoria and West Calhoun, the most of any Texas lawmaker.

Senate Bill 28 now moves to the Texas House for consideration.

  1. Thank you Senator Kolkhorst for doing a great job!! Our local senator is protecting our ports and economy with this bill. Also thank you for standing up for our wives and daughters with the Texas Privacy Act to make sure men cannot enter a woman’s public restroom, shower or locker room. You are brave to reject the liberal agenda. Without your bill, any boy who identifies as a girl must be allowed into the girls’ locker room or the school will be sued by the boy’s parents. Thank you for doing the right thing as always.

    1. Yes because a law will stop everything bad from happening! SMH!! Wasted taxpayer dollars that could and should have been spent on wiser projects!

  2. Hey, look an actual bill that is important!!! That stupid bathroom bill was, is, and will be a complete waste of time!! North Carolina is repealing this bill due to the idiocy of it. No way to enforce it. What are you going to do “check” everyone before they use the restroom? Stick to the bills that are important Senator and actually make a difference.
