SOMERVILLE STUDENT ARRESTED FOR MAKING TERRORISTIC THREAT

A Somerville student has been arrested for making a terroristic threat.  Somerville school administrators informed parents this morning that they learned Wednesday morning that a student had made a terroristic threat on Tuesday.  The Somerville Police were notified and a warrant was issued for the student.  The student was arrested this (Thursday) morning at Somerville High School.  Somerville High School administration and staff said they will address the students today to discuss what happened and re-emphasize the seriousness of threats of violence toward anyone.  The Somerville School administration said the number one priority at Somerville ISD is the safety and well-being of the children.

The notice that was sent to parents:

To the Somerville ISD Parents and Community,

Somerville High School administration was notified yesterday morning, February 21, 2018, of a terroristic threat made the day before by one of our students. The Somerville High School administration and staff responded immediately to secure the building and investigate the threat. Somerville Police was notified and based on the information, a warrant was issued for the student in question. That warrant was executed this morning, February 22, 2018. Somerville High School administration and staff will address the students today to discuss what happened yesterday and to re-emphasize the seriousness of threats of violence toward anyone. I want to personally applaud the Somerville ISD faculty and staff for responding to this concern effectively and efficiently. I want to applaud the students for doing their part for both notifying us of the potential threat and for handling themselves maturely while we secured the building. I ask our parents to use this incident as a teachable moment between them and their children. I am proud of everyone for their composure in a time of stress and uncertainty. Our number one priority at Somerville ISD is the safety and well-being of our children.

Any questions or concerns can be addressed to either myself or Somerville High School Principal Jennifer Wood

Sincerely,

Charles Camarillo
Superintendent
Somerville ISD
