TWO WASHINGTON COUNTY MEN KILLED IN WEEKEND ACCIDENT

  

A Brenham and Burton man were killed and one other person was not injured after a two-vehicle accident on Saturday around 1:30pm in Lee County three miles south of Dime Box on FM 180.

According to the Department of Public Safety report, a 2007 Freightliner pulling a flat-bed trailer, was traveling West on FM 1697 when a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt, traveling north on FM 180,  failed to yield the right-a-way from the stop sign. The Freightliner struck the left side of the Cobalt with the Freightliner’s front.

Sixty-five year old Joe Duard Autrey, of Brenham was killed, as well as his passenger, twenty-eight year old Robert Ernest Keefe of Burton.

The eighteen wheeler driver, thirty-two year old Marcus Lanier Burns, of Dime Box, was not injured.

According to the DPS report, all three were wearing seatbelts.

      1. It wasn’t three miles from Dime Box. It was at the old Post Oak School building about 2 miles from the Washington/Lee county line.
