WASHINGTON CO. UNITES FOR PRAYER VIGIL

Washington County residents came together Thursday evening in a show of support for those impacted by the tragedy at the Brenham DPS Station on April 12th.

Crowds gathered for a prayer vigil by the courthouse gazebo to pray for the affected families and for local first responders and community leaders.  They also heard from public officials who offered words of healing and unity.

Among those who spoke was Brenham Mayor Atwood Kenjura, who talked about the resilience of Washington County and how in times of struggle, people come together and take care of each other.

Other speakers included Washington County Judge John Durrenberger, Precinct 3 County Commissioner Kirk Hanath, Burton Mayor Karen Buck, and Andrea Fischer on behalf of State Senator Lois Kolkhorst.

Hanath read a statement provided by some of the families involved, who shared memories of Cheryl Turner of Brenham, one of the victims who passed away after fighting for several days in the hospital.  The statement recalled the difference Turner made in the lives of those around her.

Presiding over the event was Reverend Randy Wells of Mt. Rose Missionary Baptist Church.  Prayers were led by Pastor Billy Sutherland of Calvary Baptist Church, Dr. Craig Dohse of Salem Lutheran Church, and Dr. John D. Harris of Mt. Rose Missionary Baptist Church.
