WASHINGTON COUNTY COMMISSIONERS TO MEET TUESDAY

Washington County commissioners will discuss land for a new road and bridge department, when they meet Tuesday.

Commissioners are expected to approve the purchase of 21-1/2 acres of property for a new location for the department—deemed a “safety” concern that surfaced several years ago during long-term planning.

County Judge John Brieden would not say where the property is located or indicate a possible purchase price, which he claims could put the sale in jeopardy.

Moving the department will also allow a spot for a new criminal justice center that is also in the county’s long-term plans.

Commissioners are also scheduled to discuss a variety of issues, including granting the County Auditor the authority to conduct an audit of the FY 2014 Asset Forfeiture Report by the 21st Judicial District Attorney.

Also on the agenda is to discuss and act upon a Formal Notice for a Proposed Buried Utility Water Line crossing on Kuykendall Road in Precinct 1 for Donald W Lampe, and discuss and act upon the approval of pending Fairgrounds Management’s Rental and Regulation Contracts presented by the Fairgrounds manager.

The Washington County Commissioners Meet Tuesday at 9am at the Washington County Courthouse.

  1. Confusing- does the commissioners court get travel compensation or not? Perhaps they can answer and clarify.

  2. Can anyone answer the question about average hours worked per week, and when they are entitled to retirement benefits and how much that is? Much appreciated. Thanks

    1. The County Judge and the Commissioners do get mileage reimbursement. If you check out the County Budget for 2015, you will find that $5000 is budgeted for the County Judge while the 4 Commissioners split $9600. The retirement amount is also included in the budget. I do not know where you would get the cost of the benefits like medical insurance. It should be in the budget, but it maybe grouped with other items and not listed as an expense for each department.

  3. I too would like to know how the county commissioners and county judge are compensated with our taxpayer money. That would include salary, travel compensation, benefits such as medical insurance, and retirement. This is unclear at the county website. I would particularly like the response to come from the commissioners and county judge directly. Also was there a salary increase in the last 5 years and how many times and dates the increases were approved? thank you

  4. As a taxpayer, I would like to know how much each commissioner makes in salary, benefits received, and how many hours a week they work on county business. Also the same for our County Judge. I believe that most taxpayers will be surprised at these statistics and will consider their voting more seriously. Surely the Spectator would like us to be informed. Thanks in advance for this information.
