SIMON THEATER UPDATE

Hal Moorman, the Chair of the Brenham Main Street Historical Preservation Corporation told today’s (Thursday’s) meeting of the City Council that they are well on their way to making the Simon Theater a full convention center.

He reviewed the progress ever since the group acquired the one-time movie theater in downtown Brenham. Moorman said they have successfully turned the lobby into the convention and visitors center but more needs to be done.

The ultimate goal is to complete a convention center.  He said this can be done with the $5 million that had been raised and from the $2 million in tax credits that could come to the project.

Moorman said it was a long road to get this far and he praised the ‘tenacity of this group’ and says they have prevailed on this 11 year long effort to create the center.   He said this effort would have been a lot easier if Tom Bullock had not ‘left us so soon.’ Moorman said the turning of the Simon Theater into a convention center was his idea and plan.
