BRENHAM CITY COUNCIL TO HOLD PUBLIC HEARING ON ANNEXATION

The Brenham City Council will hold a public hearing during their meeting on Thursday about the proposed annexation of approximately 87 acres.

The land consists of tracts along State Highway 36 North, located west of and adjacent to Dixie Street- approximately 1,500 Feet from the “Cloverleaf” intersection of Highway 290 West and State Highway 36 North.

City staff has been working with Stylecraft Builders on a planned development for the past year. The applicant has submitted a petition for voluntary annexation into the city limits. This public hearing will begin the annexation process. There will be an ordinance that the will come to City Council in the future along with the proposed rezoning to a Planned Development District.

In other business, the council will discuss a series of professional services agreements related to the May 2016 storm recovery effort.

The council will consider entering into professional services agreements with O’Malley Strand and Gunda to start the recovery and mitigation of multiple projects through the City. This will include the repairs to the Water Intake Structure at Lake Somerville and Wastewater and Water Treatment Plant.

The council will also discuss the purchase of 11 pieces of equipment for various City departments. During the 2016-17 budget process staff shared with the council major equipment needs which were up for replacement, according to multiple departments’ 5 year capital plans.

During the July budget workshop it was decided these pieces of equipment would be leased purchased in order to spread the payments out over 5-7 years. It would also allow these pieces of equipment to be purchased in 2017, but the first payments would not be made until fiscal year 2018. The total price for the 11 pieces of equipment is $1,918,081. The pieces of equipment include: a loader, paving machine, compactor, double drum, bucket truck, tandem dump, water truck, street equipment trailer, trackhoe, and tub grinder.

In other business, the council will:

  • Discuss a bid for janitorial services for various City facilities
  • Consider accepting a $15,000 donation to the Brenham Pet Adoption Center
  • Discuss authorizing the submission of a Grant application through the Governor’s Office for the Brenham Police Department to convert to the National Incident-Based Reporting System
  • Consider the purchase of rifle equipment for the Brenham Police Department using seized narcotic funds
  • Discuss an addendum to the contract for participation in the City of Brenham’s rotation log for non-consent tows
  • Discuss appointments to the Brenham-Washington County Hotel Occupancy Tax (HOT) Board

An executive session will also be held to discuss the possible lease, sale or exchange of a City-owned building located at 110 W. Vulcan Street

  1. The city needs more development on the western edge. The improvements to 36 north will mesh well with new annexation. Hopefully council will require builders to lease acreage from the parcel for large commercial development and business. Best way to clear the congestion from the heavy commercialized four corners area. Ms. Tilley will be missed on council, thanks for her service, onward, upward, and best wishes.
