UPDATE: GAS LEAK CAPPED AT WELL IN NW WASHINGTON CO.

3:00 PM Thursday

The leaking gas well has successfully been capped and the all clear has been given for the evacuated area in north-west Washington County.  Sheriff Otto Hanak reported that the leak was stopped by crews from Wild Well of Houston Thursday afternoon at 2:55 PM.  Hanak said that the roadways are now open and evacuees are returning to their homes in the area.  Hanak said he would like to thank the emergency responders who worked during the incident.  He also thanked those who were evacuated for their patience and the support from those in the community.

The gas well, located on FM 390 near McNelly Road, began spewing gas Tuesday evening, forcing the evacuation of 30 to 40 residents in the area.

  1. Yes, let’s thank the law enforcement personnel, but let’s also thank EMS, volunteer fire departments, volunteer firefighters, citizens on patrol, and any other agency that all assisted in numerous ways. All of these people rushed in and risked their lives, many without getting paid to do so!! I’d like to thank all emergency personnel for your service, and all you do!!

  2. We are extremely grateful for our local law enforcement personnel and their tireless efforts over the past few days. They were quick in getting us evacuated and were vigilant in keeping our property safe while we were gone. We are thankful that the problem with the well has been resolved without any loss of life or property. We are also hopeful that this event will be used to improve communication within the community in preparation for future needs.
